May 31 

6:28 a.m. Traffic stop. Pinecone Road N. While an officer was on routine patrol, they noticed a vehicle traveling at a higher rate of speed than posted. The officer stopped the vehicle, and the driver told the officer they had thought the posted speed limit was 50 mph. The driver was given a verbal warning. 

June 1 

12:05 p.m. Theft from vehicle. Roberts Road. An officer was dispatched to call the complainant regarding a theft from his vehicle. The complainant’s vehicle was parked in the lot, and he believed the truck was locked but the back door didn’t lock. There was no damage to the vehicle, but the complainant stated his Social Security card was missing. The officer spoke to the complainant about credit alerts and suggested he contact the Social Security office to alert them as well. 

June 2 

1:55 a.m. Assist agency. Second Avenue N. The Sartell Police Department assisted Sauk Rapids Police Department on a robbery call. One of their officers spotted the suspects and they fled by jumping into the river. One of the suspects was apprehended right away and the other was located by Sauk Rapids Fire Department hiding on a bridge piling. He was arrested and officers assisted him to shore and up the bank. Sartell units were cleared. 

June 3 

1:52 a.m. Alarm. 22nd Street S. Dispatch received two alarms for this residence. When officers arrived, they found it to be a medical situation. They stayed on scene until Mayo ambulance arrived. 

June 4 

12:38 p.m. Unwanted. Ninth Avenue N. Officers were dispatched for an unknown woman found sleeping on the complainant’s couch. The caller told the officers he was outside doing yardwork and when he came in, he found a woman sleeping on his couch. Officer woke the woman who was highly intoxicated, who became disorderly and needed to be detained. It was learned the woman may have been at the neighbor’s house. When officers spoke to the neighbors, they claimed to not know the woman. The woman’s parents were called and she was picked up. The woman received a citation for minor consumption and trespassing. 

June 5 

4:03 p.m. Suspicious activity. Seventh Avenue S. Officers were requested to respond to a home for an open door. The owner returned home to find the front door wide open. The homeowner did not enter the home or touch anything and was requesting law enforcement go through the home because of the other events happening in town. A Sartell officer and Stearns County deputy cleared the home; nothing was found out of the ordinary and the door did not appear to be forced open. 

June 6 

1:02 p.m. Verbal. Sunset Avenue. Officers were requested to check on two parties at a residence that had been arguing loudly outside. When officers arrived, they found a woman outside and a man was inside. The woman told officers she was upset about moving out and a set of missing keys. The man was inside the home and said the woman had been living with him; things were not going well so she was moving out today. The officers confirmed both stories matched, and nothing had been physical. Both parties were reminded to be mindful of their voice levels as the neighbors could hear them. Officers cleared. 

June 7 

8:07 p.m. Citizen contact. Fifth Street N. While an officer was on routine patrol, they noticed a juvenile out riding their bike with a helmet on. The officer stopped and talked to the family and gave the child a ticket for a treat. 

June 8

8:07 p.m. Driving complaint. 19th Avenue N. An officer was dispatched to a driving complaint. The officer was told there was an older white Volkswagen hatchback style car speeding past the caller’s home. The caller told the officer the vehicle is a modified vehicle with loud exhaust and this was an ongoing issue. The officer responded to the area, but the car had already left the area. The officer spoke to the caller and asked he call back if he can get a license-plate number. The caller said he would as this type of thing happens often. 

June 9

1:26 p.m. Information. Sixth Avenue N. An officer was requested to meet with the caller because he was almost scammed out of money. The officer arrived and met with the caller who told the officer he was on a dating website and met a woman. The man stated that recently she had been asking for $3,000 to help pay for medical costs of a loved one. The man wanted to meet with her and give her the money, but the woman only wanted him to buy gift cards and to send photos of the gift cards. The officer advised the man he did the right thing by not doing that as it was most likely a scam. The officer told the man to delete the woman’s account. 

June 10

3:28 p.m. Open door. E Sartell Street. While an officer was on routine patrol, they noticed an open door at one of the old paper mill sites. The officer had worked the previous day and had checked the area at that time and knew that time the door was shut. The officer checked the building and found no one inside. 

June 11

3:09 p.m. Shoplifter. CR 120. An officer was requested for a male suspect who had stolen merchandise in the store and had been stopped by asset protection. The officer was informed the man had been concealing items in his pants and then walked out of the store without paying. The man admitted to the officer he was going through some hardships and that is why he had stolen. The man was cited for theft and the store did not wish to trespass him at this time. 

June 12

4:06 a.m. Domestic. Officers were dispatched to a domestic in progress. Officers arrived and spoke to the victim, who was visibly upset and shaking. The victim had noticeable marks and told officers she had been pushed down. Officers continued to investigate, ultimately the man was arrested and brought to Stearns County Jail. 

June 13

3:11 a.m. Suspicious vehicle. Third Avenue N. While doing routine patrol, an officer noticed a vehicle parked in a private parking lot. The officer made contact with the driver who stated he had gotten into an argument with his sister earlier and was just putting space between them. The officer informed the driver he was on private property and they did not want anyone parking there after hours. The man stated he did not know that and went on his way. The officer cleared shortly thereafter. 

June 14 

9:49 a.m. Community Engagement. 2 Street N. The Community Service Officer(CSO) had a question-and-answer session at a local school for their summer camp. Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade got to ask questions and interact with the Sartell CSO. The kids were also allowed to check out the squad car.  

June 15 

11:55 p.m. Vandalism to Vehicle. 2 Street N. An officer was requested for a report of vandalism to a vehicle parked outside of an apartment complex. The caller told the officer that a male in a white t-shirt and shorts pulled up in a white minivan and smashed the windshield of an F350 truck. The caller did not have the suspect vehicle’s license plate number. The caller pointed out the building and apartment number he thought the truck owner lived in. The officer attempted to make contact with the owner but no one answered the door. The officer left a business card for a call back. 

June 16 

9:27 a.m. Suspicious Activity. 1 Street N. A phone call came into the Sartell Police Department of a suspicious person walking through a field. The caller stated the party was wearing a backpack and occasionally would lay down in the field. The caller thought the behavior seemed odd and was concerned because of recent thefts in the area. Officers were able to locate the party in a corn field. Officers found that the female works for an agriculture business and was doing a field study. The female explained that it may appear that she was laying down, but she was just collecting soil samples. 

June 17 

4:54 p.m. Driving Complaint. 19 Avenue N. An officer was dispatched to a driving complaint. The officer was informed that a white Volkswagen hatchback style vehicle had been speeding past their home going faster than the posted speed limit. The caller got a partial license plate and the officer was able to locate the vehicle from police records. The officer noticed a personal camera system on the home and was able to see video of the vehicle driving by at a high rate of speed. The officer responded to the vehicle address; the officer was unable to make contact at the home because no one was home. A short time later another driving complaint came in with the same vehicle and another officer that took that call was able to make contact with the driver and had a discussion about his driving conduct. 

June 18 

9:12 p.m. Burn. Sunset Avenue.  An officer was dispatched to a complaint of a large fire behind the neighbor’s house and the caller stated it was an ongoing issue. The officer arrived and located the fire. It was noted that the size of the fire was well within the city ordinance. However, the officer did find that the fire was unattended. The officer made contact with the homeowner and reminded him to keep the fire within city ordinance size and that it needed to be attended at all times with a water source nearby. 

June 19 

2:47 a.m. Fight. Roberts Road. Officers responded to a report of two males physically fighting in a parking lot. When officers arrived, they found one male without a shirt, with cuts and scrapes on his body. The officers located two other parties involved, a male who was involved in the fight and the female who had driven them home from the bar. Their stories all matched that an argument occurred and then a scuffle between both males happened. The female’s vehicle was dented during the altercation. The males were roommates and neither wanted the other one charged. 

June 20 

11:03 p.m. Burglary. Sunset Avenue. Officers were notified of a possible burglary in progress. Officers responded along with other agencies for back up. The caller told dispatch that she was at work but got notification from her phone that someone was in her home and she could hear at least two people talking inside. When officers arrived, they could see a back bedroom light on, the caller told officers that no one should be in the home and no lights were left on. The officer requested the caller to respond to the scene. The officers set up a perimeter of the home, Avon Police Department responded with a K9 and the K9 was announced when officers went to enter the home.  They found the door secured. The officers used the caller’s key to enter and searched the home, no one was found inside the home. The caller went through the home with officers and stated everything looked normal.
