Many homes, garages, sheds and yards in Sartell might soon be spiffed up and tidier thanks to the annual Sartell Lions Spring Clean-Up event set for Saturday, April 26.
As in years before, the drop-off times will be from 8 a.m.-noon in the big parking lot of Riverview Intermediate School, 627 Third Ave. N. in Sartell.
Fees will be charged for various items (see the ad on page 3).
Items can be dropped off or to arrange an advanced pick-up, call Cody at 320-828-6620 or Mike at 320-293-1560.
All proceeds will be used by the Sartell Lions Club for its many good-deed projects throughout the city. Its upcoming project will be the construction of a shelter and indoor restroom facilities at the Lions Community Park’s all-inclusive playground made possible by the Sartell Lions and two other area Lions clubs.
The clean-up volunteers will accept just about any unused, broken and unwanted items. They cannot accept any yard waste/compost, hazardous waste, oil, paint, chemicals, propane cylinders or prescription drugs. Those items can be dropped off at the county hazardous-waste facility in Waite Park at 3601 Fifth St. Drugs can be placed in a secured container at the Sartell Police Department, 501 Pinecone Road S.
The event is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Sartell Lions Club. The clean-up is also an ideal environmentally friendly way to recycle or re-use cast-off items that would otherwise end up in the trash and/or a landfill. The Clean-Up Day will take place just four days after International Earth Day, which began on April 22, 1970.
Lions
The Sartell Lions Club is a member of Lions Clubs International, which is the largest service-club organization with more than 1.4 million members in about 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries in the world.
In the past 60 years, some of the many community projects the Sartell Lions have accomplished with contributions and help from others include:
• The creation of Sartell Lions Community Park and most recently its very popular all-inclusive playground, with the help of the Lions clubs of LeSauk Township and St. Stephen and a grant from International Lions.
• Sponsorship of an annual Bike Rodeo, along with the Sartell Police Department.
• Annual free instant testing for vision problems of young students in the school district.
• Eyeglass collections every year at seven sites in Sartell. The eyeglasses are then distributed, along with other eyeglasses from other Lions clubs, to people in the United States and throughout the world who need them badly.
• Annual scholarships given to Sartell High School students.
• Numerous cash donations to people in urgent need.
