A 23-year-old male drowned Aug. 19 in Quarry Park.
At approximately 5:11 p.m., the Stearns County Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting that a man had dove into the water at Quarry #2 in Quarry Park and did not come back up.
Stearns County Deputies along with Stearns County Water Patrol began coordinating local resources to assist in searching for the man. The Waite Park and St. Cloud fire departments responded to the call and utilized portable boats to assist in the search.
The Stearns/Benton Dive Team and Stearns County Sonar Team launched a rescue boat and began scanning the area where the man was last seen. A diver entered the water and was able to find the an near his last seen location in Quarry #2 in approximately 40 feet of water.
The male, later identified as Ahmed Jarso, 23, of St. Cloud, was brought to shore and life-saving measures were provided by paramedics from Mayo Ambulance and other first responders. Jarso was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital and was later pronounced deceased.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Waite Park Police Department, St. Joseph Police Department, Waite Park Fire Department, St. Cloud Fire Department and Mayo Ambulance.
