A Sartell resident, Jason Michael Mathiasen, pled guilty in a district court in Crow Wing County to one count of criminal sexual conduct in the fifth degree. That charge is categorized as a gross misdemeanor.

According to the complaint report and court documents provided to the Newsleaders, the accusation that led to the charge was filed by a woman (“ABS” in the police report) who claimed Mathiasen touched/rubbed her inappropriately after a party in Crosslake in Crow Wing County on the night of Dec. 30, 2023.

After accepting his guilty plea, a courtroom judge on Nov. 27, 2024, ordered a stay of adjudication for Mathiasen, which allows defendant Mathiasen to avoid a criminal conviction. A stay-of-adjudication is often decreed for first-time or low-level offenses.

Mathiasen, 51, was ordered to complete four years of probation under direction of the Crow Wing County Probation Office. That probationary period requires all kinds of restrictions and requirements. The length of probation could well be shortened if a supervised probation agent sees fit. He will pay a fine of $500 for prosecution/court expenses, but he was not given a jail sentence.

The alleged incident that led to the charge occurred at a bar-restaurant in the city of Crosslake when people gathered there to give a surprise party for Mathiasen’s upcoming birthday (Jan. 1, 2024). ABS claimed in a police report she filed that while they and other partiers were at the bar, Mathiasen became, in her words, “handsy” and squeezed her body. Later the partiers went to a nearby condo apartment where they all slept overnight. The report states while ABS was sleeping on an air mattress, unbeknown to her, her husband had gone downstairs to sleep on a couch. Later, she reported when she awakened, someone on the mattress was squeezing and rubbing her body over the jogging pants in which she was sleeping. She then realized, she said, that the man wasn’t her husband but Mathiasen.

She told police she then got up from the air mattress and went downstairs to her husband on the couch.
