After a phenomenal winning season, the Sartell Muskies are headed for the state tournament this weekend in Cold Spring and Watkins.

Last week, the Muskies took first place in the Region 1, Class C play-offs at Hinckley and Mora, defeating the Mora Blue Devils, 9-1. Their season record is 29-1.

The Muskies won the state championship in 2013 and also in 1992.

Formed in 1979, the team is a member of the Minnesota Baseball Association and plays in the 15-team Lakewood League. Its members, mostly graduates of Sartell High School, range in age from 21 to 41 and are led by long-time Coach Randy Beckstrom, who has been with the Muskies for the past 27 years.

Some Muskies are current or former college players at the NCAS Division II, Division III and junior-college levels.

During its first two seasons, the team made it to state competition. They have qualified 10 times for the state tournament.
