Former St. Joseph resident Bethany Beniek will compete for the 2012 Miss Minnesota title Saturday. She is one of 22 participants vying for the crown.
“I’m ready,” Beniek said. “I’m more prepared than I’ve ever been.”
This is Beniek’s fourth year to compete. She said she is feeling good about this year. The 22-year-old was crowned Miss West Metro March 3. With the crown came a $500 scholarship and the chance to advance to the Miss Minnesota competition.
The women are judged on swimwear, evening gown, talent, an on-stage question and an interview. The talent and the interview are major portions of the overall results. Her talent is singing.
She stopped by Cone Castle June 8 to do some fundraising before heading to the Miss Minnesota pageant that will be held in Eden Prairie Saturday, June 16. Beniek is also one of six local title holders competing for a Quality of Life award. The award recognizes students in the areas of academics, service and community.
Beniek, a 2011 graduate of the College of St. Benedict, has plans to attend dental school. She plans to enroll at the University of Minnesota.
