New mayor busy with city, busy with baby

St. Joseph has a new mayor, and the new mayor has a new baby.

Voters chose Adam Scepaniak as mayor in the Nov. 5 general election. Eighteen days later, on Nov. 23 at 11:11 a.m., son Forrest Louis Scepaniak was born in the St. Cloud Hospital. He is the firstborn child of Adam and wife Andrea.

On Jan. 6, Scepaniak’s wife, mother (Cindy) and brand-new baby boy looked on as his Daddy took the oath of office at the St. Joseph Government Center.

In a photo taken with his parents after the swearing-in ceremony, Forrest had a right-hand grip on the mayor’s gavel but was visibly displeased, perhaps preferring a pacifier to a gavel.

Another photo posted on Scepaniak’s Facebook page shows Forrest tucked into his car seat in his Daddy’s weight-lifting work-out place.

Underneath that photo, the new mayor wrote this:

“Today was Day #1 of Forrest’s bulk-training program. Client (Forrest Louis) was unenthusiastic, demanded for the weights to be lowered and when I told him to hit extra weight repetitions, he spit on me. Client is combative but exhibits a lot of potential. Hoping for a more receptive training day tomorrow after a nappy and a big-boy bottle.”

Following his mayoral inauguration, Scepaniak also posted the following Facebook message:

“I’m eternally grateful that Andrea, little Forrest, and my mother could be there. Also, I know my grandmother, who was the Mayor of Holdingford for many years, is smiling down on me.

“Thank you to Andrea who has supported and motivated me the most and to my family for their continued love and support, Rick Schultz (former mayor) for his mentorship, the city staff who (is) amazing and to all of the St. Joseph residents who put their faith in me.

“My tenure as Mayor begins today, and I will do my best to build up our city to be the greatest it can be.”
