The Sartell-Cathedral Girls’ Nordic Ski team qualified to compete at the state level at Giant’s Ridge in Biwabik. The state meet was held Feb. 11, and unfortunately none of the home-town team was able to medal at the event.
All four of the skiers greatly improved on their times from the previous year, according to a press release from the team.
State qualifying skiers from Sartell included: girls Anna Lindell, Colette Jemming, Lauren Buchholz, Lydia Anderson, Madilyn Fesenmaier and Maggie Baumann, with alternates Rachel Eisenschenk and Tessa Schwinn; and boy Alex Nemeth.
The girls qualified as a team while Nemeth qualified as an individual. This is the second year in a row the girls’ team has qualified for state. The last time the boys had a state participant was in 2012.
With only two graduating seniors on the team, both the coaches and returning skiers are hopeful of advancing again next year to represent Sartell and Cathedral at the State level.
