Mike Westerhoff of St. Joseph is the proud owner of a Sansevieria trifasciata, otherwise known as a snake plant due to the shape of its leaves, or mother-in-law’s tongue due to the sharpness of its leaves. The plant very rarely blooms, and in fact can go decades without a bloom. It’s typically grown indoors as a houseplant in cooler climates. It’s popular as a houseplant because it’s tolerant of low light levels and irregular watering; during winter it needs only one watering every couple of months. It will rot easily if over-watered.
