The two Cub Scout Packs and two Boy Scout Troops of Sartell will participate in Scouting for Food. This annual service project is part of the many activities that encourages the boys to “Do a Good Turn Daily” for others. Between Saturday, Sept. 28 and Friday, Oct. 4, the Scouts will distribute door hangars throughout Sartell explaining to leave the items in bags in front of residences’ homes. On Saturday, Oct. 5, Scouts in the area will collect all the donations and deliver them to local food shelves. It’s incredible to see the total amount of donations collected when the whole community works together, each contributing a small part.

Submit fall photos for county contest

For the fourth consecutive year, Stearns County is asking area photographers to submit their favorite photos for a countywide contest, with this year’s theme being “2013: Fall Favorites.”

The fall photos can include the following subjects: back-to-school, fall harvest, Halloween, hunting, pumpkin patches, home and/or garden projects, leaf colors, apple orchards and Halloween. Photographers, however, do not have to limit themselves only to those topics. The only rule is the photos must be taken within Stearns County.

There is no limit to the number of entries for each person.

The top five winners, including the grand-prize winner, will receive a prize package with a fall theme.

All entries will be featured on the home page of the Stearns County website, and all of them will also be featured in the online Stearns County photo gallery on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Flickr, Google and Tumblr. In addition, there will be exhibitions of the photos in the entry-ways of the Stearns County Administratioin Center and the Stearns County Services Center.

The contest will be open from now until Friday, Nov. 15. Winners will be announced Friday, Nov. 22.

Photographers of any skill level can submit their photos by uploading them on the Stearns County website: www.co.stearns.mn.us. Details and contest rules, as well as past photos and winners, can also be found on that website.

“This is a fun competition that strengthens the connection between Stearns County and its citizens,” said George McClure, the county’s information-services director. “Every year we get some amazing and creative photographs; it makes the judging process very difficult.”
