Aug. 6
2:26 p.m. Crash. Pinecone Road/Troop Drive. Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection. The driver of the first vehicle stated they were heading north on Pinecone Road when they were hit by another vehicle turning onto Pinecone Road at the intersection. The driver of the second vehicle stated they did not see the driver of the first vehicle when they began entering the intersection. Both vehicles suffered minor damage. No one was hurt.
Aug. 8
11:37 a.m. Animal complaint. 207 CR 120. Officers were called to reports of a dog in a car panting. Officers located the vehicle and saw two dogs sitting in the car sleeping, with a bowl of water in the vehicle. Officers spoke with the driver and informed them of the complaint. The driver stated they were just leaving.
Aug. 10
7:12 p.m. Finance. Beetle Boulevard. The victim stated they were contacted by someone who identified themselves with the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, who said they had missed jury summons and were required to pay a fine via PayPal. The victim stated they have recently moved so it was possible they missed the jury summons and sent two separate transactions totaling $3,000. After confirming with the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, officers were able to identify this as a scam. The victim stated they would file a claim to recover the lost money but needed the police report to file the report. This is a reminder to residents that officers will never demand payment or ask for personal information over the phone.
Aug. 11
6:38 p.m. Traffic stop. 17th Street N. Officers observed two juveniles on a motorized bicycle running multiple stop signs and almost being hit by a vehicle. The officer caught up to the bike and spoke with the occupants and expressed concerns about their safety. Officers later spoke to a parent who said they understood the situation and would tell the juveniles to be more careful.
Aug. 13
11:18 a.m. Suspicious person. Roberts Road. The caller reported a man sleeping behind the building and wanted officers to check on him. Officer found the individual and advised him he could not stay and needed to leave. The man left without incident.
Aug. 14
4:13 a.m. Fireworks. First Street NE. Officers responded to a fireworks complaint. Officers did see fireworks go off and turned on night vision to check the area. Officer checked the area but did not find anyone around. Officers did locate a homemade launching device with burn marks.
Aug. 18
9:26 a.m. Ordinance violation. Dolores Drive. City maintenance staff were informed of a tent set up inside Sauk River Regional Park. No one was inside but the tent had been there for a while, as staff found several needles inside the tent. Officers arrived to collect and dispose of the needles. Area was cleaned up and items removed.
