Smart meters should be voluntary

St. Joseph

In September of 2022, St. Joseph started implementing a mandatory water meter replacement program. The key word here is mandatory! Why are we installing technology with no right to opt out?

Homeowners have the ultimate authority to decide what technology is installed in their homes – not utilities whose government-protected monopoly prevents residents from choosing a competing utility provider.

Smart meters are surveillance devices and violate our 4th Amendment right to privacy in our home guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution. All portions of the political spectrum agree it’s about individual freedom of choice and residents’ basic property rights. The ACLU of Minnesota protects our right to privacy. They actively promote responsible uses of technology that enhance privacy and freedom, while opposing those uses of technology which undermine our freedoms and move us closer to a society dominated by surveillance.

Smart meters typically overcharge and inaccurately represent usage, when compared with reliable, accurate analog meters.

Smart meters and the smart grid risk national security and reliability of the electricity supply by opening a new portal to hackers and others who wish to disrupt these services. This is a major cyber-security problem created by “smart meters.”

Sustainable development is the proposed utopian New World Order, but by design its goals can never be achieved! We expect continuous regulations, rising costs, loss of liberty and diminished sovereignty!

By continuing to follow the goals of Sustainable and Smart Growth in the current St. Joseph Comprehensive Plan, the City Council, Planning Commission, EDA, Park Board and the City Planner (many who are appointed not elected) will continue to take our voices away! I’ve sat in meetings and have seen the Regional Control and League of Cities making the decisions for the city that they simply rubber stamp. I highly recommend the City Council amend the current Comprehensive Plan so the people of the city of St. Joseph don’t continue to lose their voices and liberties!!!!

Attend City Council meetings in person or Zoom. Go to www.cityofstjoseph.com and look at the agenda. They meet first and third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m.
