The tower’s toppling was part of the overall demolition of the plant, a mammoth undertaking by American Iron and Metal, which purchased the site and its plant in order to salvage and recycle its materials. Verso closed permanently after an explosion and fire at the plant on Memorial Day 1012 Labor killed one worker and severely damaged the plant, making its reopening financially unfeasible.
