The Sartell Police Department is warning about the danger of people using “vape” cartridges from an unknown source after a Sartell High School student suffered a crisis at school while “vaping.”
Sartell police rushed to the emergency situation. It is believed the student inhaled opioids via a vape pen cartridge.
The incident occurred March 21 at the high school. Fortunately, school staff and a school resource officer responded quickly and administered a dose of Narcan to the student. Narcan is a substance that can, in some cases, reduce the possibility of an imminent drug overdose.
The student was then taken to the hospital and was, at last report, listed in stable condition.
A police report stated the following:
“This incident is an all-too-real reminder of the dangers that often come with teenagers using vape pens, especially when the cartridges are purchased off the street and could contain any number of unknown substances.
It also highlights the importance of our SRO (School Resource Officer) program and our commitment to keeping our kids safe.
“Please talk with your teenagers about the dangers of these vape pens and cartridges, and use this incident to bring awareness and an open line of communications with them.”
