contributed photo This photo shows the biggest passenger ship in the world, the Titanic, docked in an English port not long before it set out for its doomed transatlantic voyage to New York City from Southampton, England. The ship sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on the night of April 15, 1912. About 1,500 passengers and crew died, but 710 were saved, thanks to lifeboats and the Carpathia ship that came to the rescue of the chilled and traumatized survivors.
