Three men have filed as candidates for two positions on the Sartell City Council to be decided in the Nov. 5 general election.
The candidates are Rustin Deters, Marshall Grams and Pat Lynch. The two incumbents in those open seats are Alex Lewandowski and Jill Smith, who both chose not to file for re-election.
June 3 was the filing deadline. The following are brief biographical summaries of the three candidates. More about their lives, their viewpoints and their goals for the city will be published in the Newsleaders as the Nov. 5 election approaches.
Deters
Rustin Deters is a health, wellness and fitness professional and has been a Sartell firefighter since 2020. Earlier this year, Deters (along with firefighter Brian Heim) was honored by the fire department for “commitment and dedication to serving the community, going above and beyond the call of duty in public events and engagements.”
“I am excited to announce my candidacy for city council,” Deters said. “Sartell is a community with a rich history and a bright future, and I am committed to ensure our city continues to thrive and grow.
“Sartell is a place where families flourish, businesses prosper and community spirit is strong. However, as we look to the future, we face challenges that require thoughtful decisions, innovative solutions and a commitment to the community with listening to their opinions along shared values to the city.”
Grams
Marshall Grams is a wealth advisor for Dakota Wealth Management in Sartell.
As a member of the Minnesota National Guard, he served a year in deployment as a Medevac helicopter pilot in Iraq and Syria in 2019-20 flying helicopters. When he returned, he resumed his job at Ledge Wealth Management.
For eight years, he also worked as an air-traffic controller.
He was appointed to the St. Cloud Regional Airport Authority and was its treasurer in 2021. He also founded a peer group of local executives and business leaders, the Executive Interaction Group, in 2022.
Grams studied at St. Cloud State University from 2013-2018 where he earned a degree in finance.
Lynch
Pat Lynch has already served on the Sartell City council – twice in fact, from 2007-2010 and from 2015-2018.
He is the co-founder and co-president of Granite Logistics Service in Sartell, which is an agent for Trinity Logistics. Granite Logistics employs 120 people and is a flatbed/specialized-transportation broker.
Lynch is a member of the Sartell Economic Development Commission and Sartell’s Community Resource Facility Task Force. He also serves on the boards of CentraCare Clinic, Plaza Park Bank and the Good Samaritan Fund.
“Sartell has been my home for nearly three decades, and I care deeply about this community,” said Lynch when he announced his candidacy. “While there are many great things happening in our city, I don’t believe the current incumbents up for re-election have served the city well.”
