A 9-year-old Chanhassen girl and a 14-year-old Avon boy were the overall winners in the Kids’ Apple Duathlon that took place Friday in Sartell.
Jennifer Mettler crossed the finish line after doing the short course with a time of 14:20. Noah Eide, who took part in the longer course, had a time of 21:29.
The kids’ version of the Apple Duathlon involved nearly 150 children ages 6-16. There were two separate races — the shorter of the two comprised of a fourth-mile run, a 3.5-mile bike course and another fourth-mile run. The short course is for children ages 7-10. The other race, for ages 11-16, consisted of a half-mile run, a 7-mile bike race and another half-mile run.
An “Apple Seedlings” race was designed for children ages 3-6.
The following are the top three winners in each age group.
Short-course winners: Females ages 5-8: Macy Iyer, age 8, Edina, 16:42. Emily Crandall, 7, Sartell, 17:23. Grace Bennett, 8, Sartell, 17:24. Males ages 5-8: Andrew Karls, 8, St. Cloud, 15:36. Carter Halstrom, 8, Sartell, 15:43. Isaac Theis, 8, Sauk Rapids, 16:22.
