I am not a “sucker and a loser,” as former President Donald Trump described the thousands of American soldiers who gave their lives to defeat dictator Adolf Hitler in WWII.
I am a proud American, a longtime resident here in central Minnesota, a 91-year-old Korean War veteran, who along with five of my brothers, all served in the U.S. Army, one of whom saw combat in Korea.
I will not vote for Trump because of those remarks and because of his disrespect for women when he said, “If you are a celebrity, you can do anything you want, including grabbing them by their (private parts).”
I will also not vote for U.S. Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer because he strongly supports Donald Trump. To my knowledge, Emmer has never expressed public concern about Trump’s comments. He is in the safest district in Minnesota for any Republican, so you’d think he could stand up to Trump.
I will vote for Kamala Harris for President, and Jeanne Hendricks (instead of Emmer) for Congress. Those women have the courage to speak “truth to power.”
I urge all (especially fellow veterans who are fathers, husbands, brothers, uncles) to stand with me on Election Day, Nov. 5, in making history by voting for Kamala Harris and rejecting Donald Trump. We men have a special responsibility in this moment. With our vote, we can continue to stand with pride and dignity in the service of our country. We are not cowards; we are not suckers and losers.
