Celebrated Sartell author, artist and musician Douglas Wood will read from his new memoir, “A Wild Path,” and perform music at “Dinner by the Lake,” an entertainment event from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Osprey Wilds Environmental Learning Center.

The center is located at 54165 Audubon Drive in Sandstone in east central Minnesota, southwest of Duluth in Pine County. The cost of admission is $40 per person. To get to Sandstone, take Interstate 35 N, and then take its 191 exit heading west. Look for signs.

Wood’s “A Wild Path” has been garnering rave reviews from critics. The book is a collection of interconnected essays about Wood’s lifetime passionate interactions with the world of nature.

The multiple award-winning Wood has written so far 38 books, including the children’s classic, “Old Turtle” and several books that made the New York Times bestseller lists throughout the years. They included one entitled “Grandad’s Prayers of the Earth” and numerous children’s books comprising the humorous “Can’t Do” series.

Wood lives with his wife, Kathy, in a log-cabin house in the Pine Point area of north Sartell.

He was a canoe wilderness tour guide for many years, a songwriter and a banjo, guitar and mandolin player. He has long performed in his “WildSpirit Band” along with his son, Bryan, and old friend and guitarist Steve Borgstrom. Bryan is the executive director of Osprey Wilds Environmental Center. He, his father and Borgstrom will perform at the Jan. 27 “Dinner at the Lake.”

To learn more about the event, google Osprey Wilds Environmental Learning Center.

(A feature story about Wood and his new book will be published in an upcoming edition of the Newsleaders.)
