The new electric gate at the Sartell Compost site is working – working very well.
Sartell Public Works Director John Kothenbeutel praised the gate at the April 24 city-council meeting.
People love the fact the gate makes possible extended hours at the site. When the compost site opened at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 22, vehicles were already lining up with yard waste to drop off.
Kothenbeutel said the new gate is “efficient, successful.”
When compost customers drive up to the gate, they scan their compost permit at the gate, and it automatically opens, then closes. When customers leave, the gate opens again to allow a vehicle to exit the site.
On the city’s website, some deadpan jokester wrote this about the newly opened compost site: “Can we dump snow there?” followed by a big grinning meme.
