A new art show will debut this weekend at the Whitby Gallery and Gift Shop in St. Joseph.
“Artists in Pastel: Light and Color on the Western Prairies” will open at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 3. Artists to be featured are Della Conroy and Deb Connolly for their unique ways of capturing light, shadow and color on landscapes and still lifes of prairies.
Connolly’s studio in rural Danvers in western Minnesota is surrounded by trees and prairie. She uses watercolor and pastel to recreate the visual textures she sees, resulting in impressionist-style still lifes and Minnesota landscapes.
Della Conroy of Hancock, also in western Minnesota, specializes in acrylic and oil for her abstract works but prefers the softness of watercolor and pastel for most of her landscape paintings. Residents and community members can see the artists’ work at the Whitby Gallery starting Sunday through July 15. The Whitby is located at 104 Chapel Lane at the entrance to the Sisters of St. Benedict Monastery in St. Joseph.
