Virtually everyone who knew Jon Michael Maus describes him in glowing terms as an outstanding community member, a loving husband and father and a very hard-working man.
Maus, 50, of Albany, was killed in the explosion that ripped through a warehouse at Verso paper mill in Sartell on Memorial Day.
Maus and his wife, Lucy (Ohmann), have four children: Anthony, Philip, Olivia and Veronica. All of them still live at home.
Maus was born in St. Paul and graduated from Hill-Murray High School in that city. He married Lucy at Seven Dolors Church in Albany in 1987. He worked at Stone Container in St. Cloud for many years before taking over the family farm. While farming, he also worked at Verso in Sartell for the past nine years. He was laid off from Verso last year but rehired just two weeks ago.
He and his family are active members of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. He is a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and United Steel Workers 274.
Maus enjoyed NASCAR, farming, attending his sons’ motocross events and spending time with his family.
Visitation was set for 4-9 p.m. Thursday and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church gymnasium. The Mass of Christian burial was set for 11 a.m. Friday at Seven Dolors Church.
