City of St. Joseph has double standard

St. Joseph Rental Ordinance is disgraceful

My family rented a house back in March on Cary Ct., within a month, we were told by the City and the police that we were in an “unauthorized” rental house and we will have to move out.  Obviously, we were not aware of this ordinance since the person who owns the house never disclosed this to us, even though he was fully aware of this.  The owner did not submit the required paperwork, and signed false affidavits that he was living in the house with my family.  The owner of the house lied to the City, the Police and to my family.  We since have spent thousands of dollars living in the Holiday Inn for 3 weeks while our new rental house in Sartell is still occupied.

Here’s the kicker, the day after we vacated the house on Cary Ct. we saw someone else had moved in, so we inquired to the City how the owner could rent the house again.  We found out the owners sister is renting the house, but St. Joe Ordinance 55.04 states the owner of the house must live in the house as their “primary” residence, which we know he does not.  The City has told us they are fine with this new renter?

How can the City of St. Joseph tell my family we have to leave due to an ordinance violation, but is ok with a different renter violating the same ordinance?  I will and have been telling everyone we meet how the city of St. Joseph has treated my family with this disgraceful double standard.
