Two businesses in St. Joseph are teaming up for a Sept. 9 outdoor fundraiser for reproductive rights. The name of the event is “Reproductive Rights Make ‘n’ Bake.”
The proceeds will go to Planned Parenthood and to the Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project.
From 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, the fundraiser will take place at Bruno Press, a printing shop located at 154 Fifth Ave. SE at East Baker Street. The other participating business is Flour and Flower, a downtown bakery and restaurant that also sells flower bouquets and other merchandise. Flour and Flower will have pastries and other items for sale at the fundraising event at Bruno Press. There will also be ice cream served.
Entertainment will be provided by a local all-female band called “Miss Darling Jane.”
People who attend will be able to make a personalized print on the shop’s printing press. Candles, jewelry and food will be available for purchase.
Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization that provides birth control, reproductive health care and abortions in the United States and globally.
The Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project raises money for women of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds who are unable to afford emergency contraception or a safe and legal abortion.
Donations to those two groups can be made online at their respective websites, www.weareplannedparenthood.org and wrrap.org.
