The Sartell Bantam A team clinched the District 5 Championship on March 14 with 3 wins, 0 losses. Their final game went to triple overtime where they pulled out a thrilling victory. The team then advanced to the Minnesota Hockey West Regions tournament in St. Louis Park March 19 to 21. These Sabres battled after losing their goalie to illness and with only 11 skaters earned a fourth-place finish in arguably the toughest region in the state, thus ending their season. The team is coached by Will McCabe (head coach) and Kelly Rieder, Ryan Hacker, JD Anderson and Troy Stebbins (assistant coaches). Team managers are Kristen Stebbins and Amber Wohnoutka. Sartell Bantam A Team
Deerwood Bank has promoted Jacki Templin of Sartell as its Central Market President. In this position, Templin will lead Deerwood Bank’s central market branch locations of Sartell and Waite Park.
Megan Mechelke, Sartell, was named to the dean’s list for a GPA of 3.5 or higher at the University of Iowa, Ames.
Kaitlyn Widvey, Sartell, was named to the dean’s list for a GPA of 3.7 or higher at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Three Sartell students were recently named to the dean’s list for academic achievement in the top 15 percent of college students at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. They are Grace Falconer, Patrick Stalboerger and Tyree Thompson,
Two Sartell students were recently named to the president’s honor roll for a GPA of 3.8 or higher at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. They are Patrick Stalboerger and Tyree Thompson.
Faith Kowalke, Sartell, was named to the dean’s list for a GPA of 3.66 or higher at the University of Minnesota Crookston.
Three Sartell students were recently named to the dean’s list for a GPA of 3.5 or higher at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse They are Rachael Fuchs, Kaleb Myhrwold and Tessa Schwinn.
Five Sartell students were recently named to the dean’s list for a GPA of 3.5 or higher at Bemidji State University. They are Nathan Engelmeyer, McKenna Lalim, Thomas Raden, McKenna Rohe and Cassidy Sarff.

St. John’s Prep Knowledge Bowl team
St. John’s Prep won the Class A Minnesota state Knowledge Bowl championship April 9. The team includes (from left to right) Matthew Bolton of Sartell, Henry Chen of Sartell, Liam Rogers of Avon, Adrienne Gefre of Sartell and Lukas Uhlenkamp of St. Cloud. The team was coached by Charles Miller and Jennifer Daiker.
Sen. Jeff Howe, who represents District 13 covering Sartell and St. Stephen, was named the strongest conservative in the Minnesota Senate by American Conservative Union. Lawmakers are evaluated on a zero to 100 scale, with a 100 representing a voting record that is perfectly aligned with conservative principles. Howe received a score of 95 and was the only Minnesota state senator to score over 90. Howe also received a rating of 94 in 2019, and has a lifetime average rating of 89, making him one of the strongest conservative members of the Minnesota Senate.
