The St. John’s Abbey Arboretum announced last week it has changed its name to St. John’s Outdoor University.
The OU includes more than 2,500 acres of lakes, oak savannah, prairie and woods which is owned by St. John’s Abbey and surrounds St. John’s University.
OU offers environmental and outdoor education through events, classes and other programs with St. John’s University and the College of St. Benedict.
Director Tom Kroll stated the new name better reflects what they do and inspires a growing vision of the OU and their place in the area. Because of the growth they have seen in all aspects of their programming, he said they believe the name will identify them as leaders in environmental and outdoor education, leadership development and land stewardship.
