Pets and their owners are invited to take a leisurely walk together for the annual “Woofstock Companion Walk” at Wilson Park in St. Cloud Saturday, Sept. 8.
It’s the annual fundraiser for the Tri-County Humane Society, based in East St. Cloud.
Registration is 9 a.m., and the walk will begin at 10 a.m. There will be a silent auction, food, festivities, music, food, information booths and other fun activities from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The walk will take place, rain or shine.
“Woofstock” is a whimsical take-off on “Woodstock,” the famous hippy music festival in 1969. In previous years, pet owners and their pets would wear colorful, tie-dyed, hippy-type clothing and headgear to make the event fun and colorful. Participants this time are encouraged to do the same.
During Woofstock, people — most often accompanied by their pets (mostly dogs) — do a 5k walk through the neighborhoods of St. Cloud near Wilson Park along the river. The walkers accept pledges for their efforts. All proceeds are given to the humane society to shelter animals, to have animals spayed and neutered and to find them good adoptive homes.
At Woofstock, there will be prizes awarded to qualified walkers who raise a certain amount in pledges. There will also be drawings and give-away gifts.
Anyone who wants to participate can collect pledges from family, friends or acquaintances in person or people can start a pledge-site at www.firstgiving.com/tchs.
Exhibitors are still welcome to set up a booth at the event. For more information, call Marit at 252-0896.
