The phone scammers are at it again – this time demanding money for back taxes.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Department has issued an advisory about the crooks, warning people not to fall for the scheme. The callers state they are employees of the Internal Revenue Service, working with an investigator from the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department, and then they demand money for back taxes or they will send a deputy to the residence to arrest the person. In some cases, the calls actually purport to show on caller I.D. that the call is originating from the sheriff’s department.
The calls are nothing but scams and have nothing to do with the IRS or the sheriff’s department. Those who receive such calls should hang up and never give any personal information to the callers. Always report such calls to local law enforcement.
