The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office has identified the driver of a vehicle that crashed and was left in a ditch north of St. Stephen.
On Jan. 1 at 8:48 a.m., a Stearns County Deputy was on patrol in Brockway Township when he came upon a vehicle crashed in the ditch at 85th Avenue near 440th Street. This is about three miles north of St. Stephen. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time. There was extensive damage to the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu and to an irrigation system which was alongside the road and had been struck.
The driver was later located and identified as Brandon Hommerding, 18, Rice. He had been driving the Malibu and was northbound on 85th Avenue when he went off the road and struck the irrigation system. Hommerding was not injured in the crash. The property owner was notified of the damage to his irrigation system.
