Big Brothers Big Sisters

Sauk Rapids

As we enter 2025, many of us are considering resolutions, and I encourage everyone to consider volunteering. I hope many will choose to mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters, but the important thing is to find a cause that aligns with your passion. Volunteering not only transforms lives but also provides incredible health benefits.

Research shows volunteering improves mental health, reduces stress and enhances physical well-being by fostering a sense of purpose and connection. Volunteers often share that they gain as much, if not more, from the experience than those they help. The joy and fulfillment of making a positive difference can be life-changing.

At Big Brothers Big Sisters, we see this every day. Our mentors, or “Bigs,” form lasting bonds with their mentees, their “Littles,” gaining new perspectives and a deeper connection to their communities. The impact on the children is equally profound: mentorship leads to higher self-esteem, better school performance, brighter futures.

Being a Big requires just a few hours a month, but the rewards – for both you and your Little – are immeasurable. If mentoring isn’t your calling, I encourage you to volunteer in any way that speaks to your passion. Whether it’s at a local shelter, food bank or community organization, your time and effort makes a difference.

This year, let’s commit to building healthier, stronger communities together. To learn more about becoming a Big, visit BigDefenders.org or call 320-253-1616.
