With large crowd, Sheriff’s Office says ‘things went well’ at Johnnie/Tommie game

Deputies issued about 15 citations during the Oct. 13 St. John’s/St. Thomas football game attended by more than 16,000 people, according to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office also reported that five people were taken by ambulance to St. Cloud Hospital because they were too intoxicated to care for themselves.

“All things considered, when you have an event such as this with anywhere between 16,000 to 17,000 people, this really did go well,” the Sheriff’s Office reported in its newsletter to county residents.

The large crowd caused some traffic issues including party buses that tried to “sneak in the back way,” according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office.

Twenty-six deputies were on duty along with six horses from the county’s mounted patrol. The county was assisted by six State Troopers checking buses and by St. John’s life safety officers and EMTs. St. Thomas sent security officers as well.

St. John’s won the game 40-20.
