(from news release)
The College of St. Benedict will host the upcoming ninth annual “Dancing with Our Stars” fundraiser on Monday, June 10.
Each local celebrity is paired with a professional dancer to face off for the chance to win up to $15,000 for the non-profit program/organization of their choice.
This year’s dancers include:
Michelle Meier (Arbor Hair Studio) to benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation for its Camp Oasis Summer Program for Girls.
Cathy Elness (St. Cloud Area YMCA) to benefit the YMCA’s Girls’ Safety Around Water program.
Debra Leigh (St. Cloud Technical and Community College) will donate her proceeds to the Women’s Leadership Pathways at the SCTCC Multicultural Center.
Steve Jones (United Way of Central Minnesota) will dance to benefit the United Way’s Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for Girls.
Jim Maurice (WJON-Radio news director) will benefit Quiet Oaks House for its Quiet Oaks Supporting Women program.
Brady DeGagne (Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota) will dance for the Club’s SMART Girls program.
For the public, the Social Hour is from 5-6:45 p.m. Guests are then seated for the performance from 6:45-7 p.m. The show/contest begins at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $99 each and available now by visiting the “Dancing with Our Stars-St. Joseph, MN” website.
The show is a major fundraising event for the Women’s Fund of Central Minnesota Community Foundation. It works to provide grants for capital campaigns, local programs and other initiatives that improve the quality of life in the greater St. Cloud region.
The following is how the contest works. The winner will be determined by scores from the judges as well as how many dollars they raise for their charity – 40 percent on judges’ scores and 60 percent on dollars raised. All money raised will go directly to the organizations of the winning dancers’ choice.
First place is $15,000, second place $5,000, third place $3,000.
Fundraising has already begun and will continue up until the event.
