Carie Essig, the executive director of the Stearns History Museum, left her job July 28 to begin a new job at Stride Academy Charter School starting this fall.
Stride Academy, located in St. Cloud, accommodates students in grades K-8.
The Stearns Museum’s development director, Amy Degerstrom, was named interim executive until the museum board can hire a new director.
The museum staff hosted a “Coffee with Carie” gathering to thank her for her five years of service to the museum.
As executive director, Essig supervised the museum’s curators, educators and designers who created exhibits, educational programs and fun events for group visits and for people of all ages. She also helped the museum attain full national accreditation and was instrumental in formulating a long-term strategic plan.
Born in St. Paul, Essig holds degrees from the University of Minnesota and the University of Northern Illinois. Before her work for the Stearns History Museum, she worked for 20 years in St. Paul as a historian, researcher and cultural consultant for CME Research MN.
She has been very active as a girl scout leader since 2012 to the present.
