Feb. 7
6:23 p.m. Suspicious vehicle. Providence Line. An officer responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle parked in a cul de sac. The caller stated the vehicle had been there for about a half hour and was not a vehicle they recognized from the area. The officer made contact with the man inside the vehicle. The man told the officer he had a sales call at a house down the street and was early. So, he pulled over and was waiting closer to the meeting time.
Feb. 8
1:31 p.m. Suspicious person. CR 120. Officers were called for a man concealing merchandise in a backpack that had not been purchased. Officers arrived on scene and shortly thereafter were notified the man had ditched the backpack and merchandise. The officers were told it appeared there had been a lookout in the parking lot and must have seen the officers arrive. The man then left the store and got into a vehicle driven by a woman.
Feb. 9
11:22 a.m. Assist person. First Avenue N. An officer was dispatched to meet a woman in the Public Safety Facility lobby. The woman had gotten mail for a person who no longer lives at their address, and it was an ongoing issue. The officer advised her, she needs to return the mail to the post office, as it has been discussed in the past. The officer also told her the party that the mail was addressed to has been told to get his address updated, but that law enforcement can’t force him to do that. The officer took the opened mail and returned it to the City Attorney’s Office. The woman was told to return it to the post office next time vs bringing it to the police department.
Feb. 10
10:33 p.m. Shoplifter. CR 120. Officers were contacted for a shoplifter at a business. While officers were tying to locate the suspected shoplifter, a traffic stop was done on a vehicle the business identified as being part of the crime. The suspect was not in the vehicle at the time. A female passenger told an officer she thought she may have a warrant. The officer ran the woman’s name and date of birth and confirmed a warrant out of Morrison County for misdemeanor theft. The officer told the woman she was under arrest and she became hysterical. While in route to the jail, the woman was kicking, screaming and spitting in the backseat. The woman was left at the Stearns County Jail. The woman could either post cash bail or would be held for transport to Morrison County.
Feb. 11
9:02 p.m. Suspicious activity. Sierra Loop. Officers were requested at an address for juveniles playing ding dong ditch. The complainant believed it was at least two boys but wasn’t fully sure. The caller told dispatch the youth were last seen going east bound from their address. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the boys. The officer responded to the address and obtained the video to get a better description. Officers continued searching the area and located three youth who told officers they tried going to one of the boy’s mom’s address. The officers checked that address and learned they had been called there as well for a burglary alarm earlier in the night. The boys were transported back to the incident location and apologized to the homeowner. The officer then transported the boys to one of their addresses and left them in the care of a parent. The other parents were contacted by the officer as well.
Feb. 12
11:12 p.m. Suspicious vehicle. CR 1. While an officer was on routine patrol, they saw a vehicle parked in an approach. The officer checked the vehicle and found a note stating the driver would be back for it later. No one was around. The officer tried contacting the registered owner and was unable to make contact. The vehicle came back clear and was off the road far enough to not be a hazard.
Feb. 13
5:04 a.m. Suspicious vehicle. Central Park Boulevard. While on routine patrol, an officer observed a vehicle parked in the park after hours. The officer found the vehicle to be unoccupied. The officer used his FLIR camera and searched the area but did not see any movement or heat signatures.
