Sartell Fire Chief Peter Kedrowski has accepted a job as deputy chief of the St. Cloud Fire Department after three years of service to the city and its residents.
His last day as Sartell’s fire chief will be Sept. 29. He started his job in Sartell on Aug. 12, 2021.
In late August, Kedrowski informed the city council and staff of his impending departure. At the Sept. 9 city-council meeting, council members thanked him, praised his outstanding service and wished him well. They lauded his professionalism, his constant efforts to strengthen the department and his outstanding connections with Sartell residents, having attended 35 public events during three years while he and other firefighters shared fire-safety tips and got to know the people the department serves.
Council member Jed Meyer said Kedrowski was a “steadfast, calm, grounded leader” and that he is going to be missed.
Kedrowski thanked the council members for their kind words.
“This (working in Sartell) has been an amazing opportunity,” he said. “I absolutely love Sartell – the council, the staff, the community.”
Before his employment as fire chief in Sartell, Kedrowski started had been a firefighter for 24 years, in the Rice and the St. Cloud departments. He started as a firefighter at age 18 in Rice, where his father was a volunteer member of the fire department. Kedrowski has said he longed to be a firefighter ever since he was 5 years old.
