Recently I have noticed another added element to the Sartell-St. Stephen school board election race. Certain candidate signs are now adorned with American flags. It is my understanding that the school board is not to be a political entity. In some areas these candidate signs are bookended by presidential signs. Maybe this is meant to be a sign of patriotism. Maybe not. Or is it another attempt to garner more votes? You decide.
Our flag is a symbol of continuous respect and a reminder of our great nation, past and present. However, true flag etiquette requires all flags to be lighted after sunshine ceases.
I humbly ask these candidates to either provide lights for their signs or be patriotic and remove these flags. Our flag needs to be honored and respected both day and night.
