We have an amazing nurse in our community.
May is Nurses Month. Liz Schwagel is a hospice nurse and mother of two with a deep commitment to caring for those in their final moments – even after a heartbreaking year in the pandemic.
She just celebrated her eighth year with Minnesota-grown national hospice company St. Croix Hospice, working out of the Sartell branch.
Starting as a certified nursing assistant, Liz earned a nursing degree and worked her way up to become a RN case manager. She serves the dying and their families in assisted living facilities and private homes, assuring they have a dignified death.
Liz recently noted, “From a 19-year-old CNA to a 27-year-old RN: I know I’m a hospice gal through and through. I have learned so much, I have seen so much. To have the honor to walk alongside beautiful and extraordinary patients and family through their end-of-life journey is not only the most amazing career but such an amazing experience each day.”
Liz lives in Richmond and serves patients in Sartell and surrounding communities.

Have you experienced someone doing a random act of kindness? Do you know someone who is a tireless volunteer? Is there an employee who is exceptionally helpful, courteous and exceeds expectations? We’d love to know about it and share it on our website and Facebook page.
In 250 words or less, let us know who this person is, if they live or work in Sartell, St. Joseph or St. Stephen, and why they should be recognized. Include a photo. (Get their permission, too. Some people aren’t comfortable with the attention, and we want to respect that.)
