Three students from St. John’s Preparatory School History Day Club participated in the Central Minnesota History Day March 21. Sophomore Amelia Broman, daughter of Evelyn Erickson and Bruce Broman of St. Cloud, created a senior individual website entitled “Josip Broz Tito and Yugoslavia: Maintaining an Independent Communist State.” Sophomore Hallela Hinton-Williams, daughter of Mary Hinton and Robert Williams of St. Joseph, created a senior individual website entitled “A New Way of Teaching: The Legacy of Maria Montessori.” Sixth-grader Adrienne Gefre, daughter of Katherine and Brian Gefre, Sartell, performed a junior individual performance for her project entitled “Ministry of the North: A Benedictine Legacy on the Red Lake Reservation.” Both Gefre and Broman advanced to the Minnesota State History Day competition which was held May 2. Broman placed second at state and advanced to the National History Day which took place June 13-19 at the University of Maryland.
History Day is a national program designed to promote the love of history and research. Students are able to participate in one of five categories: papers, websites, performances, exhibit boards and documentaries. They can participate as an individual or group. Students are encouraged to look at primary and secondary sources and conduct interviews during their research. This year’s History Day theme was Leadership and Legacy.
Twenty-one St. Joseph students were recently named to the headmaster’s honor roll at St. John’s Preparatory School, Collegeville.
They are the following: Marisa Gaetz, a junior, daughter of Rose and Rick Gaetz; Hallela Hinton-Williams, a sophomore, daughter of Mary Hinton and Robert Williams; Claire Kissela, a seventh-grader, Joel Kissela, an eighth-grader, and Lauren Kissela, a sophomore, daughters and son of Marcia Allard and Chad Kissela; Courtney Larson, a sixth-grader, daughter of Sally and Jaime Larson; Adam Lepinski and Ben Lepinski, both sophomores, sons of Lois and Alan Lepinski; Grace Martone, a sophomore, and John Martone, a freshmen, daughter and son of Lisa and Mark Martone; Reid Nydeen, an eighth-grader, and Taylor Nydeen, a sophomore, children of Pam and Lance Nydeen; Savannah O’Hare, a junior, daughter of Amy O’Hare of St. Joseph and Peter O’Hare of Hixson, Tenn.; Clare Pfannenstein, a senior, and Cole Pfannenstein, a sophomore, daughter and son of Joan and Patrick Pfannenstein; Emily Powers, a senior, daughter of Bridget and James Powers of Collegeville; Olivia Schleper, an eighth-grader, daughter of Susan and Alex Schleper; Sarah Schrup, a senior, daughter of Myra and Tom Schrup; Justin Terhaar, a junior, son of Jody and Karl Terhaar; Kathleen Walz, a junior, daughter of John Walz of St. Joseph and Susan Walz of St. Cloud; and Anja Wuolu, a junior, daughter of Lorie and David Wuolu.
Students must maintain a minimum 3.5 grade-point average to qualify for this honor.
Five St. Joseph students were recently named to the principal’s honor roll at St. John’s Preparatory School, Collegeville.
They are the following: Ethan DeWitt, an eighth-grader, and Kyle DeWitt, a junior, sons of Wendy DeWitt of St. Joseph and Brian DeWitt of Mora; Brenna Skahen, sophomore, and Caitlin Skahen, an eighth-grader, daughters of Jennifer and Sean Skahen; and Sabrina Wuolu, a seventh-grader, daughter of Lorie and David Wuolu.
Students must maintain a minimum 3.49 grade-point average to qualify for this honor.
Ethan Schatz, son of Sherry and Nathan Schatz, St. Joseph, recently received the Presidential Honor Scholarship, recognizing high academic achievement, from North Dakota State University, Fargo. Schatz will enter NDSU in the fall and plans to major in chemistry.
Three St. Joseph students were recently named to the spring dean’s list at North Dakota State University, Fargo.
They and their majors are as follows: Andrew Hellmann, psychology; Mariah Kresky, psychology; and Danielle Thiessen, public relations and advertising.
Students must maintain a minimum 3.5 grade-point average to qualify for this honor.
