The American Legion of St. Joseph will hold three events at area cemeteries to honor 514 veterans on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28.
The day begins at 8:45 a.m. when Legionnaires, members of the Legion Auxiliary and sons of the American Legion march to the 9 a.m. service at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Following the service, participants will go to the church cemetery to honor veterans buried there and cemeteries around the nation and the world.
Flags will be placed on graves and veterans’ names will be read as the church bells toll followed by a squad firing three volleys and taps being played.
Next the Legion members and honor guard will travel to St. John’s Abbey Cemetery to conduct an 11:15 a.m. ceremony to honor veterans buried there.
The final stop will be at 11:55 a.m. at Yankee Cemetery south of St. Joseph.
