A man who lives in Watab Court in Sartell requested the city council to change the speed limit on Second Street S. from 40 mph to 30 mph.
The man addressed the council during its “Open Forum” session of the April 24 meeting.
He has lived in Watab Court for 23 years and has never seen police do a speed check on Second Street, which runs past Watab Court and connects Riverside Drive to Pinecone Road.
Vehicles, he said, are constantly speeding on that street, making it difficult for him and others to exit from Watab Court and posing a great risk to pedestrians in that area. He also noted there has been one pedestrian death on Second Street some years ago.
There is a need for pedestrian signs and safe crosswalks in that area, the man emphasized.
Mayor Ryan Fitzthum told the man his request would be referred to the appropriate city authorities.
