A St. Cloud man has confessed to police that he broke into a Sartell residence and stole items at night while people were inside the house.
Taylor Grant Grzybowski, 18, has been charged with burglary in the first degree. He remains in the Stearns County Jail under a $50,000 bail.
On April 23, Grzybowski allegedly entered a home at Meadowland Court in Sartell. He gained entry, according to the police report, by breaking a basement window.
After entering, he walked through the house, including into an upstairs bedroom in which the woman of the house was sleeping. From the bedroom, he took the woman’s cell phone from her night stand. Also missing from the house, as its residents discovered later, was a laptop computer and some jewelry.
A man in the house saw the suspect in an entryway. When the intruder saw the man, he ran and sped off in a car. The man in the house then called the police.
Grzybowski was apprehended thanks to tracking of the stolen cell phone that indicated the suspect was near Ogilvie. Law officials in Kanabec County were contacted, and they found the man sleeping in his car. The phone and laptop were recovered from the vehicle.
In a statement to police, Grzybowski admitted to breaking into the house after seeing bottles of alcohol through a window.
His next court appearance is slated for June 8.
