An apartment fire in east Sartell that apparently caused the deaths of a man and a child under the age of 1 is under investigation.

The Minnesota Bureau of Apprehension is assisting in the investigation.

The apartment building is in the 300 block of 11th Avenue East.

The fire was extinguished by firefighters.

At 8:03 p.m. Jan. 19, the Sartell Fire Department received a fire call from the apartment building reporting a fire in one of the apartments. When firefighters and police arrived, they discovered the body of a man and an infant, who was taken to St. Cloud Hospital where the infant was pronounced dead.

Metro Bus and the American Red Cross helped transport to safety residents who lived in apartments near the one where the fire occurred.

Sartell firefighters and police were assisted by police departments from St. Joseph, Sauk Rapids, St. Cloud, Waite Park and Avon; fire departments from Sauk Rapids and St. Cloud, sheriff’s departments from Steaarns and Benton counties, the State Patrol and the State Fire Marshal.
