Pinecone Road closure on Saturday, May 27
Pinecone Road from Seventh Street to 40th Street will be completely closed to traffic from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27 for the Sartell Apple Duathlon. Avoid travel or be prepared to stop on Seventh Street N. and on 2-½ Street between Pinecone and Second Avenue because of cyclists and runners. The Apple Duathlon is a local, nonprofit race whose proceeds are returned to the community through donations to local service agencies and for college scholarships for local students. Come out and cheer on the racers!
Volunteers needed for Apple Duathlo
Support the local race and your community by volunteering to help with the Sartell Apple Duathlon kids’ race on Friday evening, May 26, and with the adult race on Saturday morning, May 27. We need people to staff registration and manage packet pickup, staff food tents and water stations, supervise parking, direct racers and more. Sartell seeks tutors for 2017-18 school year
Reading, Math Corps seeks AmeriCorps tutors to help build students’ literacy, math skills
Oak Ridge and Pine Meadow elementary schools were recently awarded tutor positions by the Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps as part of an AmeriCorps recruitment effort statewide. A total of six literacy tutors and one math tutor are needed for the 2017-18 school year.
This is part of an AmeriCorps recruitment effort of approximately 1,700 literacy and 300 math tutors throughout the state. Approximately 900 sites statewide were awareded tutor positions. By joining Reading Corps or Math Corps, individuals will help more than 35,000 students statewide. Both full- and part-time tutors are being recruited to begin a year of paid service this fall.
Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps are statewide programs to help every Minnesota student succeed in reading by the end of third grade, and in math by the end of eighth grade.
Math and literacy tutors are fully trained by Math Corps and Reading Corps. Tutors commit to 11 months of service, during which they earn $574 (full-time) every two weeks and an education award of up to $5,815 to help pay for further education at the end of their service. Full-time tutors are also eligible for health insurance and child-care assistance.

Mobile food shelf help
Catholic Charities Emergency Services is looking for volunteers to help with its mobile food shelf. Intake workers are needed every second Thursday of the month from 10:45 a.m.-3 p.m. and every fourth Thursday of the month from 9:45 a.m.-3 p.m. Catholic Charities is a non-profit organization that advances the charitable and social mission of the Diocese of St. Cloud. Caring cooks-weekend cooks for residents
Anna Marie’s Alliance needs two-four volunteers to cook lunch and/or dinner on Saturdays and/or Sundays at the shelter. They provide the food; you and a friend, relative or co-worker can come in to prepare a meal for the residents. You can also bring in food to cook. After the meal is served, you may choose to dine with the residents. This can be a one-time event or something you repeat. Join them for fun and fellowship, making a difference in the lives of women and children experiencing domestic violence. Volunteers ages 13-17 can help with adult supervision. Help escort patients at the VA ~ June 9
The St. Cloud VA is looking for volunteers to assist with an upcoming event at their facility. The event is scheduled for Friday, June 9 from 9:30 a.m.-noon, for a performance from Re-Creation, a patriotically themed musical performance of show tunes. Volunteer at WACOSA
WACOSA is looking for volunteers to help in a variety of ways. Volunteers will assist in projects to enhance the quality of the environment for the benefit of clients such as painting, landscaping, gardens, patio design and care. Volunteers are also needed to assist with vehicle checks and care to insure safe and comfortable transportation for staff members and clients. WACOSA empowers more than 500 adults with disabilities in central Minnesota by helping them to reach their fullest potential, offer business solutions and build community.
