Volunteers must be able to follow instructions accurately, have good keyboarding skills, be professional, flexible and detail-oriented. Office experience is helpful. They would like volunteers to make a three-month minimum commitment. It would be ideal if volunteers could stay for at least a two-hour block during their volunteer time. Hours can be flexible between the hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. Volunteers will go through an enrollment process (includes orientation). All volunteers are asked to complete a criminal background check before their first volunteer experience. Apply at www.bgcmn.org. We put you in the driver’s seat! Give someone a lift today.
Volunteers will assist older adults and people with special needs with transportation to medical appointments, nearby grocery store or food shelf. The amount of driving you do is completely up to you. It can be as little as one trip a week or you can choose to drive on particular days. For many people, the lack of assistance in getting to medical appointments increases the likelihood that they will not be able to stay in their own homes. Great River Faith in Action connects volunteers with people, preferably in their own neighborhood, so they can maintain their independence. Some are very independent and only need transportation; others may require more assistance such as checking into the clinic or help getting a wheelchair at the medical facility. A medical transport may also include a trip to a pharmacy on the way home for a new prescription. Contact Cherise Robb, Great River Faith in Action volunteer coordinator, at 320-290-3428 or [email protected].
