Thanks in part to the state-of-the-art disc-golf course in St. Joseph’s Millstream Park, the St. Cloud Disc Golf Club’s members have raised a lot of money and food throughout the years for the St. Joseph Community Food Shelf.
This is the club’s 28th year of playing disc golf at Millstream and of raising funds – $200,000, to be exact, and 3,000 pounds of food. Just last year, in 2024, nearly $6,000 was raised, along with 100 pounds of food.
Funds were sometimes split between the St. Joseph Community Food Shelf and Pathways for Youth in St. Cloud, which is a shelter and resource center for youth who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. It serves young people ages 16-24.
During an interview with the Newsleaders, St. Cloud Disc Golf President Josh Rosinger shared details about the club and its charitable giving. A Sauk Rapids resident, Rosinger is employed by Prairie Restoration Landscaping, located in Foley.
There are at any given time from 50-75 active members, men and women, in the St. Cloud club, Rosinger noted. Those members are residents of many towns and cities in central Minnesota, including St. Joseph, one of whom is T.J. Rockey, who is a board member of the club.
“We like to play in Millstream Park,” Rosinger said, “and we always have a good time.”
The fundraising event is dubbed the “Ice Bowl Tournament” and takes place on the second Saturday of every January. Similar disc-golf “Ice Bowl” fundraisers take place throughout the nation, with a few in Minnesota.
People from far and wide come to the Ice Bowl at Millstream Park. They pay to enter the tournament, and much of that money is then donated. Last year, there were about 90 entrants, Rosinger said.
Members of the St. Cloud Disc Golf Club believe it’s appropriate to donate to the St. Joseph Community Food Shelf because that facility is located in the city where members of the club have had so much fun for so many years.
The club’s members also enjoy disc golf at other area cities, including St. Cloud, Waite Park, St. Augusta, Clearwater, Becker and at a course near Benton Beach of Little Rock Lake just east of Rice.
Rosinger noted the club doesn’t raise money at all of those places, but sometimes funds are given to the disc-golf facilities so improvements can be made.
