Minnesota Corn Growers Association seeks agvocates for 2012

The Minnesota Corn Growers Association is currently seeking applicants for the 2012 Advocates for Agriculture program set to begin June 1.

The program is designed to create a learning environment to encourage the development of young leaders in Minnesota agriculture. Currently in its third year, the program also strives to create awareness of issues facing corn farmers and develop young leaders into skilled advocates for these issues.

Through hands-on experiences, networking with agricultural professionals and social media avenues, Agvocates will be given opportunities to become actively involved with corn and agriculture, and develop communication, leadership and advocacy skills. Among other benefits of the program, Agvocates will receive a $3,000 scholarship.

Eligible candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 24 and be enrolled in a two-year or four-year post-secondary education or training program. Among others, participants will be required to attend MCGA-related events, advocate through social media platforms and write an article for MCGA’s Corn Talk publication.

Applications and program information can be found online at www.mncorn.org or by calling the MCGA office at 952-460-3603. The deadline to apply is April 20. Agvocates will be selected by May 25.
