I recently read there is a suggestion we increase the number of members in the federal House and Senate. With a large population growth since the last voting alignment, it would add a large number of members. A large percentage of new members would come from the few larger states. This would lead to little or no fair representation from our large number of smaller states.
It could also be suggested we reduce the number of members in the House and Senate. At present nearly all decisions are made by the color of your state – red or blue. Newly elected members are usually required to rubber stamp the decisions of their party leaders or lose party support in their next election. Usually to advance your position, you have to be in lock-step with the leadership. I don’t believe we need additional members of red or blue, ayes or nays, to pass our legislation.
