Nothing makes sense anymore. On Jan. 6, 2021, we saw the former president’s violence at the Capitol on our TV sets. Within 36 hours, five people died: Capitol police shot one, another died of a drug overdose, and three died of natural causes, including a police officer.
Many people were injured, including 174 police officers. Four officers who responded to the attack died by suicide within seven months.
Yet a great deal of nice folks still do not hold the former president responsible. We see statements like, “Freedom isn’t free” and “Proud to be an American,” with Trump flags right next to those kinds of statements. In a democracy, do we get to choose which elections we believe in?
Republicans, including Congressman Tom Emmer of our Sixth District, support Donald Trump who says he wants to free his followers who were at his rally for their violence. He said he will free all those convicted in court and sentenced to jail/prison if he is elected as the next president. He vowed he would free all 460 of the perpetrators.
It is hard to understand the logic of those “nice folks” who support the former president and yes, even Congressman Tom Emmer. Nothing makes any sense anymore!
