Sept. 10
10:19 a.m. Fraud. Officers were called regarding a fraud complaint. The caller stated when they attempted to log into their Base Coin account, they received a message to verify the account. The victim stated after logging in, they got a message to call a number who directed the victim through the process. The victim stated the person on the phone asked all the right questions and told the caller all their information. The victim stated red flags started to go up and they shut everything down, however not before $15,000 was withdrawn from the account. The victim stated they currently froze the account.
Sept. 11
12:28 p.m. Dog complaint. Fourth Avenue NE. Officers responded to a dog complaint. The caller reported every time they walk their dog, another dog in the neighborhood runs onto the street and barks at them. Officers spoke with the homeowner who stated their dog has been overprotective ever since they brought home another dog. The owner stressed they would keep the dog chained up and not allow it to roam free when in the yard. Officers also advised the owner about the dog ordinance and what would happen should the dog bite someone.
Sept. 15
6:18 p.m. Traffic stop. Second Street S./CR 78. Officers were on patrol when they noticed a vehicle traveling faster than the posted speed limit. The officer stopped the vehicle and observed the vehicle’s tabs had expired. The driver stated they were unaware how fast they were driving but did know the tabs were expired. The driver was given a citation for the expired registration and a verbal warning for speeding.
Sept. 18
12:29 a.m. Stolen vehicle. Hwy. 15/CR 120. While on routine patrol, officers came across a vehicle with no taillights on. Officers ran the vehicle’s license plate and saw an alert out of Sauk Rapids for a juvenile runaway and stolen vehicle. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver and passenger, who were both acting nervous. Officers questioned both parties and learned the passenger was the suspect. The driver was released to their parents, while the passenger was taken into custody by Sauk Rapids Police for vehicle theft.
Sept. 22
5:19 p.m. Theft from vehicle. Central Park Boulevard. While working on another theft complaint (stolen purse from a vehicle), officers were notified about another theft. The victim reported their vehicle was parked next to a van that had its windows smashed out and noticed their checkbook was missing. The victim did call the bank and reported it stolen. No suspects currently for either theft.
