We recently had many awards of our nation’s highest honor. The “Presidential Medal of Honor” given to many individuals by our president. Their purpose is to honor those who have given outstanding service to our country, an example being a service member who has defended comrades, and often given their own life.
In the past eight years, we have had a much larger number of awards. How do their qualifications compare to those of the past? How would our past recipients react to the qualifications of our present winners?
I believe there should be a given set of standards before even considering a person for this honor. They should not be given out as a high school diploma.
I believe the annual winners of our “Heisman Trophy” in football receive more respect than many of those recently given the “Presidential Medal of Honor.”
